Greens have a severe outbreak of Pythium at present. Excessive rainfall two weeks ago and programmed mowing and rolling for the club championships has spread the mycelium and spores to every green. Numerous applications of different fungicides are slowly having an effect in controlling the disease outbreak.

Green staff have done a great job in presenting the course for club champs over the last three weeks.

Thanks to all the volunteers who help out on a weekly basis.

Scope of work for next week will be needle tining, fertilising and oversowing tees. Spraying a selective herbicide for clover and broad leaf weeds. Mowing and grooming the course.

From one extreme to another with the weather, 100mm of rain this week !!!

The green staff mowed everything last week in anticipation of the wet weather that eventuated. Unfortunately final mowing and grooming of the course for the first round of club champs has been restricted with the unrelenting rain.

Focus for next week will be programmed aeration of the greens with needle tines. Mowing and grooming the course for the ladies and men’s club champs.

Hopefully the rain event forecasted this week end will eventuate !!! 3mm of rain in the last eight weeks is the one of the driest winters ever.

Fairways and green surrounds have been foliar fertilised this week to create some definition from the rough.

Green staff have completed an irrigation audit this week to highlight any faults and repairs that are required with the system.

Thank you to the volunteers for mulching gardens and other tasks completed over the last month.

Focus for next week will be edging bunkers and consolidating sand on the faces. Application of a penetrant on fairways to reduce the hydrophobic soil conditions from a very dry winter. General mowing and presentation leading into the club championships.

What fantastic winter weather at present, only 3mm of rain in the last six weeks. Hand watering greens in the middle of winter sounds crazy but is required at present with the westerly winds reducing the soil moisture content.

Green staff have completed bunker refurbishment by adding sand to selected bunkers and reshaping the edges. Wind erosion and general play has left a minimal coverage of sand in the bases.

Greens have been needle tined every two weeks to relieve compaction and stimulate root growth.

All gardens have been sprayed and mulching has commenced, this will help to retain as much moisture as possible for plant growth and health leading into what looks like an extremely dry spring and summer.

The course has been blanket sprayed with a selective herbicide for clover and broadleaf weeds.

Focus for next week will be mulching gardens, irrigation system audit and general course maintenance.

Thank you to all volunteers who consistently help around the course.
Course Superintendent,

Shaun Patrick

Finally a fine week of weather !!

The green staff have been able to mow all surfaces this week apart from a few wet banks around the greens.

Programmed dusting of greens was completed on Monday, this will help to firm up the putting surface and dilute the thatch content.

Drainage at the end of the 10th cart path has been completed.

Focus for next week will be re-shaping bunker edges, general mowing and grooming of the course.

Weather has been kind this week, managed to mow fairways and green surrounds for the first time in over a month !!!
Greens have been needle tined with the Pro- core this week, great results with no damage to the surface and only six hours to complete.
Stage one of the drainage at the end of the 10th cart path has been completed.
Focus for next week will be completing stage two of the drainage on 10th.
Mulching branch pile on the 2nd.
Mowing and grooming of the course.

Wet, Wet, Wet 70mm of rain this week has made the course exceptionally wet and soft. Please follow all signs where directed around the course.
Green staff have been working on drainage at the end of the 10th  tee cart path. The storm water pipe installed by contracted plumbers three months ago has created a dam effect in that area, a rubble based drain utilising tiles stock piled near the Telstra tower will solve this problem. Completion date will be the end of next week (weather pending).
Focus for next week will be completing drainage on the 10th. Needle tining greens with the Pro-core. Mowing fairways, tees and green surrounds if the surfaces are not too wet. Edging and weeding bunkers.

Course Superintendent
Shaun Patrick

Carts are on tomorrow please stay on the fairways and follow the cart signs.

The Hospitality Cart will be out tomorrow but will be only running between the 9th and 13th

From one extreme to the other with the weather, 83mm of rain since Saturday. Unfortunately the course will take a while to dry out at this time of year.

Cart signage will be out over the weekend. Please follow signs where directed as we are tying to preserve the course leading into winter

The green staff have been working on bunker faces and levelling bases this week. The green side bunker on 7th is GUR at present, a decision will be made about the future of this bunker at the next board meeting.
.
Focus for next week will be mowing and grooming the course for the first round of the Foursomes Championships.

What fantastic weather at present.

Green staff have been busy edging, weeding and levelling bunkers this week.

I must commend the boys on a great effort in mowing and presenting the course for the Waratah Cup this Saturday.

Focus for next week will be completing the 2nd fairway bunker near the green with cores, top-dressing and seeding the trenches across the 8th, 10th fairways. General mowing and maintenance.

Dave Drury is taking a month annual leave as of next week. Dave deserves a break after all the effort and sacrifices made after the extreme summer we just endured.

Hi all, I have returned after a enjoyable two week break with my family over the school holiday period. The green staff have done a great job completing programmed work and presenting the course in my absence.

This week a foliar fertiliser was sprayed to define and enhance the fairways, green surrounds from the rough.

Greens were dusted on Monday to dilute the thatch content and firm up the putting surfaces.

Sprinkler heads, valve boxes on fairways and rough have been cleaned around to improve the overall presentation of the course.

Trenches across the 8th and 10th fairways from storm water pipe installation have been stolonised with cores, growth is starting to initiate in these areas.

The drinking water tap at the 10th  tee is out of order at present, a damaged fitting underground has been repaired but the area immediately around the pipe in the ground is wet and soft which is a potential slip hazard.

I would like to welcome back Joel Paget back to Waratah after a year absence, Joel’s skill and professionalism is a great asset to the club.

The focus next week will be edging and weeding bunkers, mowing and presenting the course for the Waratah Cup next Saturday.

The unseasonal warm weather has made the growth around the course excessive.

The green staff numbers are depleted at the moment with annual leave, personal leave and a resignation three weeks ago, this has made it difficult to present the course to the standard I expect.

The focus has been on mowing all areas of the course and spraying programmed preventative fungicides on the greens.

Next week will consist of mowing and grooming the course. Hopefully we get a touch of cooler weather to slow the growth down over the coming weeks.

Thank you to Greg and Justin for their efforts in mowing the rough this week.

The short weeks, minimal green staff and excessive growth from the rain and warm days has made it difficult to present the course as I would like.

Edging and weeding bunkers was a time consuming process this week with the amount of grass and weeds present in the bunker faces.

Focus for next week will be mowing mowing mowing !!!

The course has been slow to dry out after last week’s weather event.

Majority of work for the green staff this week has been removing debris around the course from the extensive flooding last Wednesday. Thank you to the volunteers who helped with the clean up on Tuesday.

The roughs mower has only been able to get to selected areas this week due to soft and wet ground, the rough will be cut all next week to gain control over the excessive growth.

Focus for next week will be edging bunkers and mowing and grooming the course.

What a massive rain event on Wednesday (182mm in total), 160mm in a six hour period has caused significant flooding on the course. All the bunker faces were washed out and a lot of debris around greens and tees.

Green staff have cleaned up some of the debris but this will continue into next week.

With the weather forecasted for Wednesday the green surrounds renovations was put on hold to concentrate on mowing as much as possible on Monday and Tuesday.

The focus for next week will be cleaning up debris from flooding and mowing and grooming the course.

Greens height has been lowered to 4mm and continue to recover well from renovations two weeks ago.

Green surrounds renovations are 50% completed, the cores have been spread over the two bunkers that were filled in on the 2nd. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on Tuesday during this process.

General mowing and presentation of the course has been difficult to accomplish being one green staff member down since last Wednesday.

The focus next week will be completing green surrounds renovations and stolonising the filled in bunkers on the 2nd.

Rain on Sunday and Monday was welcomed (81mm) but not very comfortable to work in while coring the greens !!!

Green renovations have been completed, the new pro-core was extremely successful considering the weather condition presented on Monday. The previously utilised tractor and vertidrain would not have been able to attempt green renovations if the same weather conditions had occurred in the past.

Coring and cleaning up of the greens was only a seven hour process compared to sixteen hours with the tractor and vertidrain.
There was minimal tyre rutting on some greens from the top-dressing machine due to the greens being soft from the rain, this will be rolled out and top-dressed over the coming weeks.

The green staff have put in a huge effort all week with hand brooming the greens every day to get all the sand in the core holes and apply various amendments.

Overall a great result with no damage to the surface and expecting a quick recovery period.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the green renovations throughout the wet and trying conditions.

Focus for next week will be general mowing and grooming of the course.

A very welcomed drop of rain on Tuesday morning (10mm).

Edgeworth Treatment Work have not been able to supply the golf course with any irrigation water since Wednesday last week, as a consequence limited fairway and tee watering has occurred. The problem with the UV plant at Edgeworth will hopefully be rectified on Friday.

Sprinklers have been replaced on selected tees where the reliability and performance was substandard.

Repairs and general maintenance to the irrigation system has been a priority for this week.

Greenstaff have done a great job in presenting the course for the first round of the Fourball champs on Saturday.

Can some of you please do a rain dance, we are officially in a drought.

Light topdressing of greens was completed on Monday to dilute the thatch content.

Fairways and tees have been sprayed with a growth regulator, the volume of irrigation required at this time of year and warm weather creates excessive growth resulting in areas being scalped by the mowers.

Greens staff have done a great job in presenting the course for this weekend.

Focus for next week will be spraying for Argentine Stem Weevil in the greens and various applications of fungicides, Fairways have become hydrophobic and require an application of a penetrant to help with the dry areas. General mowing and grooming of the course. Keeping the greens alive !!!

Finally some cooler weather with a few showers around.

Light topdressing of the greens was completed on Monday, this will firm the surface and help to dilute the thatch content.

Bunkers have all been edged and weeded, it was a massive effort by the green staff. Any volunteers are more than welcome to whipper snip the edges and weed the bunkers on a regular basis to keep them presented well all year round ?

Trees and gardens have been sprayed around with glyphosphate.

Toro fairway mower was delivered on Monday under a new lease agreement with the club.

Thank you to all the volunteers for their efforts around the course this week.

Focus for next week will be whipper snipping around the course, cutting around irrigation valve boxes, qcv, green sprinklers and general presentation of the course.

It’s been a dry month, only 12mm from a storm a couple of weeks ago.

The bunker on the RHS of the 2nd fairway has been filled and shaped, turfing or stolonising of these two bunkers will be completed once the soil has compacted more.

Edging and weeding of the bunkers has commenced and will be completed next week.

Focus for next week will be lightly topdressing greens, finishing weeding bunkers, complete spraying around trees.

Have a great Australia day.
