Programmed monthly application of gypsum on the greens was completed this week. Gypsum helps to remove the accumulation of sodium in the soil and unlocks essential nutrients for the root system. The recycled irrigation water utilised is excessively high in sodium and bicarbonates.
Various applications of fungicides, fertilisers and soil conditioners have been applied to the greens. Everything is done possible to keep these old greens alive and healthy at this time of year.
The 2nd fairway bunker near the green has been roughly shaped utilising the fill that was on the 4th near the tee, Final shaping will be completed next week.
Fairway sprinklers have been trimmed around, the optimal performance of the sprinklers was being compromised by the kikuyu runners stopping the internal mechanism operating properly.
Green staff have done a great job this week considering small staff numbers from scheduled annual leave and personal leave.
Focus for next week will be completing final shaping of the 2nd fairway bunker, edging and weeding bunkers and keeping the greens alive !!!
