Scheduled mowing and general maintenance around the course this week has been difficult to accomplish due to scheduled annual leave and personal leave depleting our small number of green staff. Thank you to Greg Crankovic for his dedication in mowing the rough all week.
The focus for next week will be trialling a self-propelled aerator (pro-core) with 5mm needle tines on the greens, if this process is successful it will eliminate the need for the tractor to be driven on the greens in the future. An application of gypsum will be applied after the aeration to combat the accumulation of sodium in the soil, the recycled water utilised for irrigation is very abrasive on the plant and in particular the root system in the greens, it carries a large amount of sodium and bicarbonates that lock up nutrients in the plant and soil creating various problems in warm weather.
Fairway renovations (coring, sweeping and low mowing) will commence on Monday 20/11/17. Please give way to all greens staff during the fairway renovation process !!!
